Meet Kiera! Isn't she beautiful? She was having a great time with her mom at Bands on the Beach.

The crowd was gearing up early for a good time!

Buck Lee is taking his "Leave Only Your Footprints Please" campaign

to the next level. Recycling bins have now been placed around Casino Beach in which you can place your plastic bottles, cans and other recyclables.

Another strong proponent of recycling is Lila Cox. Like me, one of her environmental goals is to help eliminate plastic bottles! Lila is working on something special for the cause at our Taste of the Beach event in September. I'll keep you informed and maybe you'll even see me helping her out that weekend!

So look for these marked recycling bins next Tuesday night at Bands on the Beach, or any time you're in the Casino Beach area. We want to fill them up and maybe they will add even more around the core area!

Just a swingin'!

Allen Penniman is showing off his very special tee shirt! He and his wife, Janet, are very proud grandparents of Sarah Andrews, who won a gold medal for the United States in the Women's 5,000 meter race at the Pan American Junior Championships in Trinidad last week! Yea, Sarah!

Not Quite Fab was the featured band last night. The crowd truly enjoyed a trip back to the '60's and the music of the Beatles.

As you can see, we ended up with a perfect evening and almost a full moon on display.

And what a surprise, if you stayed 'til the end of the concert. The Not Quite Fab band was joined by McGuire's Pipe Band! What a lovely result.

A great way to end a lovely evening on Pensacola Beach.

It was perfect weather for Bands on the Beach. Beach balls in the air everywhere, if you look close! We had a light breeze and lower humidity.


The crowds are growing and with the featured Reunion Band, a fan favorite, it was even larger!


Hmmmm... caught this local bigwig in the sunlight/spotlight, didn't I? Sorry for the bad lighting, Buck, but nice to see you out enjoying Bands with us as usual.


Making memories. Everyone is happy and good energy abounds.

Paulette Provost. She's da Queen, otherwise known as First Mate of the Krewe of Wrecks this year! I enjoy photographing Paulette. She always has a huge smile for me.

And I love this photo - so sweet and carefree. I hope they remember summer evenings and dancing on the beach when they are all grown up with children of their own.

Dick Bedics and his wife, Bonnie, spend most of the evening together on the dance floor. But you can frequently see him helping out as a culinary assistant at some of Distinctive Kitchens' cooking classes at their location in downtown Pensacola. Meet another special lady - Mary Lou Long from Missouri! She's head of the happy, energetic Froot Loop gang - comprised mostly of mothers, sisters, daughters, and granddaughters - who have been coming here every summer for years. Mary Lou and I have corresponded for probably three years now! This year her adorable 8-month old granddaughter, Lilly, made her first trip to the beach.

And these young ladies - Madison, Hannah and Joey - are Froot Loops in Training! They have a great time at the beach. In fact, the whole family love Pensacola Beach so much that they are thinking about coming back for Thanksgiving this year!

Sadly, I missed a photo of my little turtle girl of the group, Isabel. I'm thinking she may turn out to be a marine biologist someday.

See ya in a few months, girls! I think you'll find our temps much nicer than Missouri's in November!

Bands on the Beach

Poor little Lakin! From the look of those bandaids, she just got some shots. Hopefully the music of Dr. Breeze will cheer her up.

The crowd grows larger each week...


In fact, people were spreading out all the way back to the lifeguard stations!

We had a nice breeze which cooled things off a little, but these folks came prepared. Look at their portable fan.

Other came prepared with some shaded seating, but unless this gentleman put on some sunscreen he's going to be a redneck tonight for sure!

I've even noticed some of the Swing Kids coming out to the concerts the past two weeks. I'm looking forward to seeing them in Pensacola at Evenings in Old Seville Square this Thursday evening when the Swingin' Dick Tracys perform.

By the way, Dr. Breeze and his band was very good. I noticed on his website that they will be performing again on Pensacola Beach at the Quietwater Amphitheatre, August 22, for part of the Sounds of Summer Concert Series. You should mark it on your calendar!

Wow! What happened to our 'little' Bands on the Beach crowd! It has taken off in a BIG way.


Obviously there isn't a bad seat in the house with all that soft white sand to dig your toes into.


The featured band last night was A Touch of Gray and folks really enjoyed their music.


Bella Bela! I just love her smile and beautiful dimples.

Don't you love to see people holding hands?

One thing for sure, this band knew how to get folks up and dancing!

Well, almost everyone. It's a bit difficult to dance and text at the same time.

Ahhh...the good life.

I'm tellin' ya, Hank, that fish was this long!

Oops, the purple flag is up. That southerly wind must be pushing some jellyfish in.

This little cutie, Finn, lives right here on the island. He loves music and Cheetos!

One of my favorite island couples, Jim and Lynda Knell are the nicest folks around. They are very involved in the community. Jim is the founder and organizer of the Pensacola Beach Military Fishing Expedition which took place last month. Lynda is the current president of the Pensacola Beach Women's Club.

This is our rubberband man! If I was half as limber as he is on the dance floor, I'd be in good shape -- or spending half my time at my chiropractor's. You will see him here nearly every Tuesday night.

Now how did Sarah manage to color coordinate her outfit with the sunset. We had an incredible tangerine sunset last night. Sarah's cousins, Bela and Briana, love spending time with her because....

she's such a great dipper!

Bela and Briana Kennedy with their older cousins, Sarah and Hannah Stendebach are all visiting Uncle Jim and Aunt Lila Cox and enjoying their time together. Look at those sandy feet! I'm sure you all know if you go home with sand in your shoes it means you'll come back again.
