Blue skies and sand

I drove to Park East this morning, about three miles from my house, then proceeded to hike east toward Navarre Beach. The road was barricaded immediately past the entrance to Park East parking lot and now you can see why.

About a mile down the beach I turned and walked north to the road was now buried under several inches of sand. Looking west, I took this photo and - if you click on the photo to enlarge it - you can see Portofino in the distance.

Looking back east, you can see how wind and water (which obviously breached the road) flattened dunes which once ran along the south side of the road.

Two park rangers were uncovering excess sand off of a turtle nest this morning. Can you believe how far down they had to dig to get to the original level!
