Gulf Fritillary

We're still seeing several Gulf Fritillary butterflies in the area despite the cooler temps.

These lovely butterflies are common all along the Gulf Coast.

Lovely. I miss fritillaries here on the North Slope--we get some butterflies, a few, in the summer--and I savor every one I see!

Yes, I'm sure you don't get Gulf Fritillaries that far north. Ha! What DO you get though? I need to check your blog more often, Jay, because I've loved many of Annie's photos of Barrow wildlife...incredible polar bears, owls, the tundra, etc. So beautiful, but so darn COLD!! :-)

Today is Saturday, Dec 4th. I was watching the Portofino Beachcam & saw this crane digging this big hole. Does anyone know what they were doing? Something to do with the oil? Happy Holidays to all D.J.'s bloggers & also to you D.J. & your family from Louisiana!
