It's difficult to stay out on the beach for very long, not just because of rain, but gusty wind and blowing sand. This is what remains of our nest enclosure at PB 7121, west of Portofino.
It's sad that many sea turtle nests were lost this season, due to storms. Luckily we have had more nests than normal and most have hatched. Only a very few got washed over this year.
Are there any nests hatching on Pensacola Beach this weekend? I have a visitor who has seen a turtle lay but never hatch! We checked this Portofino nest last night - saw the enclosure gone.
If you could let me know, that would be awesome! My email is heather(dot)wolf(at)jugglefit(dot)com
PS- I've met you once at a hatching. And I'm the one who went to the St. Augustine rookery on your suggestion in a post :)
My name is D.J. A few years ago I moved to one of the most beautiful places in the world--Pensacola Beach, Florida. I love exploring the beach, documenting its changes with my photos, volunteering to help our sea turtles, attending concerts on the beach in the summer, and participating in many of the events we have throughout the year. I also enjoy sharing my photographs with you so that you can appreciate the beauty of our very special island.
