Jam or jelly?



I'm pretty certain the fruit on this palm tree is inedible, but if you know for sure, please comment below. I could probably make some fine jam or jelly with all this fruit!

I think this is a Date Palm. I'm not sure of the varieties of dates that are edible, or how to prepare them, but I hope this helps.

There is one of these at my sister's church, and she and my boyfriend were telling me how people are always picking fruit from it by the bushel. It's a palm just like this one and they described mature fruit being yellow-orange just like this. I'm almost positive it's the same and if so yes, it is indeed edible.

I think this is a pindo date palm, sometimes called a Jelly palm. The fruits are used to make Jelly here in the south.

This is a Pindo palm or jelly palm. The fruit is ripe when it is orange yellow like the picture. You can eat it right off the tree - there is a big seed in the middle. Or you can make jelly out of it - which is why it is called a jelly palm.
