A surprise greeting!
What a surprise to look over and see a pod of dolphin parallel to me this morning. They were having a wonderful time body-surfing in the Gulf of Mexico.
They came in very close to shore and there were several of them.
I was so excited that I started squealing like a five year old...
Which may have been what made one curious enough to swim even closer.
Look! It's Flipper! And he's smiling at me!

Amazing capture. Looks like he/she is smiling at you.
Oh God, I LOVE THIS! Wow. I have only seen them when they are way out in the water; I have seen them breach though and it's funny, everyone who sees them claps!
I love the last two images!!!
DJ, what time of the morning was it when the dolphins appeared? (and shark?)
Kathryn, when I saw them this morning they were about a mile and a half east of the entrance to the Santa Rosa area Gulf Islands National Seashore and they were heading west. It was about 7:00 a.m. because I had already been to the edge of Navarre Beach and was within a couple miles of the opposite (west) end of my patrol
I see dolphin occasionally on my Ft. Pickens patrols too, but this is the first time I've seen them so close and so playful - bodysurfing and breaching the water frequently.
