Barrancas National Cemetery

Since moving to Pensacola Beach my husband and I have driven to Barrancas National Cemetery each Sunday or Monday over Memorial Day Weekend to show our respect for those who have sacrificed much for our country. It's a solemn sight.

The Department of Veterans Affairs’ National Cemetery Administration maintains 128 national cemeteries in 39 states (and Puerto Rico) as well as 33 soldier’s lots and monument sites.

Barrancas National Cemetery is located on 95 acres within the boundaries of U.S. Naval Air Station in Pensacola. To learn more about the history of Barrancas National Cemetery you may click HERE.

Beautiful photos. Every national cemetery I've seen has been impeccably maintained.

My final resting place will be the one in Bushnell.

I was there this afternoon in the rain. I love the last one, DJ.

Jacob, you must be a veteran, so I thank you for your service to our country. My father was a veteran and I'm drawn to the solemn beauty of national cemeteries, especially on days that commemorate our veterans. For those who follow my blog and read the comments, here is a link to an article about Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida which Jacob mentions:

Thank you for your comment, Jacob.

Thanks, PJ. It started storming/lightning --loudly -- about the time we arrived, so we had to leave. I was so disappointed. I wanted to get more photos. It's such a sad, solemn experience, but I feel we should pay our repects. I'm anxious to see your photos.

Thank you, Barrier Island Girl...the article is very interesting. Lois Anne and I spent a day at Bushnell last year and were very impressed...plus we took lots of photos...

Have a great week!
