For several days we've had amazing, brilliant sunrises. Here are photos from this morning, from pink to gold and back again.

Ft. Pickens Patrol
It was such a beautiful day for patrol at Ft. Pickens. The birds were lined up at the shoreline buffet!

This Grand Show is Eternal...
“This grand show is eternal. It is always sunrise somewhere; the dew is never all dried at once; a shower is forever falling; vapor is ever rising. Eternal sunrise, eternal sunset, eternal dawn and gloaming, on sea and continents and islands, each in its turn, as the round earth rolls.”

May rays in Santa Rosa Sound
Now that I live in a condominium, I have many opportunities to observe sunsets, sunrises and storms, as well as all type of birds and marine life on Santa Rosa Sound. This was an amazing moment when I saw two schools of May rays (cownose rays) noticing each other and staging their own version of the Sharks and the Jets (in West Side Story)!

Favorite Places
One of my favorite spots is the western end of the island at Ft. Pickens. To the right is Pensacola Pass, where you see boats heading out into the Gulf of Mexico. On the other side of the Pass is the remains of a battered and burned Ft. McRae,located at the tip of Perdido Key.

Rescued Leatherback
A friend of mine brought the video below to my attention a couple of days ago. As you know, I've been involved with the Sea Turtle Monitoring program on Pensacola Beach for several years as a volunteer sea turtle patroller, so I was very excited to see the rescue of this huge leatherback which had gotten tangled up in a crab trap and buoy. As you can see in the beginning, it was exhausted and probably would not have lasted much longer had it not been spotted. I hope you are able to access the link:
