A surprise greeting!

What a surprise to look over and see a pod of dolphin parallel to me this morning. They were having a wonderful time body-surfing in the Gulf of Mexico.

They came in very close to shore and there were several of them.

I was so excited that I started squealing like a five year old...

Which may have been what made one curious enough to swim even closer.

Look! It's Flipper! And he's smiling at me!

  2. Oh God, I LOVE THIS! Wow. I have only seen them when they are way out in the water; I have seen them breach though and it's funny, everyone who sees them claps!

  4. DJ, what time of the morning was it when the dolphins appeared? (and shark?)

  5. Kathryn, when I saw them this morning they were about a mile and a half east of the entrance to the Santa Rosa area Gulf Islands National Seashore and they were heading west. It was about 7:00 a.m. because I had already been to the edge of Navarre Beach and was within a couple miles of the opposite (west) end of my patrol

I see dolphin occasionally on my Ft. Pickens patrols too, but this is the first time I've seen them so close and so playful - bodysurfing and breaching the water frequently.
